Did we mention it overlooks Comerica Park so you can watch your Tigers run the bases? The MOT officially took possession of the building in 1989 at a cost of approximately $250,000 (remember that, in 1922, the cost to build the theater was $2,250,000). In 1957, the Publix I Wurlitzer pipe organ, installed in 1928 when Paramount took over the theater, was removed.

With the change in ownership also came an upgrade in the large organ. The Hillgreen, Lane & Co. organ was removed — its whereabouts today are unknown — and replaced by a Publix I Wurlitzer organ. But even with all of the efficiencies that come with running a centralized operation, Paramount could not manage to make its operation at the Capitol come out profitable while the country was moving into an economic depression. The total cost of building the theater was $2.25 million or, in today’s money, when adjusted for inflation, about $30.8 million. I got really emotional when we premiered at Tribeca and in the whole third row of the theater were my friends from childhood who did youth theater with me.

The beautiful edifice was torn down later that year when Court Street was extended from D Street through to the new courthouse on Arrowhead Avenue. Over the next decade, Maude Adams performed the role more than 1,500 times. One of those performances was at the San Bernardino Opera House on April 19, 1913. OTIS WILLIAMS (Original Temptation/Author of The Temptations/Executive Producer) is a five-time Grammy A ward-winning singer, and a songwriter, author, producer and executive producer, born in Texarkana, Texas and raised in Detroit. Recognized as the founding and sole surviving original member of The Temptations, one of the most prolific musical institutions of all time. But when the Prince appears, he is pale, handsome, and barely more than a boy. The crowd takes pity on him and begs Turandot to have mercy on him. Turandot appears to signal the execution and Calaf is captivated by her heavenly beauty. Timur and Liù try to impress upon him that pursuing his infatuation will only end badly as the Prince of Persia is executed, but Calaf will hear none of it.

The pair worked together to relocate the city’s entertainment center from Monroe Street and Campus Martius to the growing shopping district surrounding Grand Circus Park. To design the biggest and best theater in Detroit, they turned once again to architect C. Howard Crane, who by 1920 had established himself as the city’s foremost theater architect. Because you do tend to think of her in such a graceful way.

The opera house was built by mountain man-turned civic leader James W. Waters and his partner, Herman Brinkmeyer, as an investment in 1882. The beautiful red brick edifice with white facade topped by a golden eagle was known throughout the country for presenting top quality shows and concerts. Mr. Conlon’s extensive discography and videography can be found on the Bridge, Capriccio, Decca, EMI, Erato, and Sony Classical labels. His recordings of LA Opera productions have received four Grammy Awards, two respectively for John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles and Kurt Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.

Join us as we establish a new vision for the art form, inviting you to imagine, to question, and to embrace what this artform means for us today. The original Detroit Opera House was located on Campus Martius Park and opened in 1869. It succumbed to fire in 1897 and was rebuilt the following year. The current Detroit Opera House opened on January 22, 1922. Howard Crane designed the Italian Renaissance style building.

He also frequently collaborates with universities, museums, and other cultural institutions and works with scholars, practitioners, and community members across disciplines. He frequently appears throughout the country as a speaker on a variety of cultural and educational topics. Conlon opens his 18th season at LA Opera conducting Mozart’s Don Giovanni directed by Kasper Holten. He also conducts Verdi’s La Traviata—the first opera he led as Music Director of LA Opera—continuing his multi-season focus on the works of the great Italian composer. To date, Conlon has conducted more than 500 international performances of Verdi’s repertoire. Conlon closes his LA Opera season honoring the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death, conducting Turandot, Puccini’s final opera composed in 1924.

But it’s not just what the theater has done for the area, or the world-class performances that take place within its walls that make this theater so special. Howard Crane was trying to achieve in his original design, and what the renovation of the theater to Crane's original plan has done. In a 1925 issue of The Architectural Forum devoted to motion picture theater design, the magazine describes the experience of walking into one of these new movie palaces. And transforming the building into an opera house took much more than just renovating the great hall and auditorium. Opera on the scale that the Michigan Opera Theatre produces requires space for huge, heavy, and expensive sets, dressing rooms for large casts, makeup rooms and costume storage, not to mention business offices. So the MOT bought and razed the adjoining buildings — the Roberts Fur Building and the International Arts Building — in order to build a 75,000-square-foot stage house.

Crane was also responsible for The Fillmore, Fox Theater and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Orchestra Hall – known for its acoustic perfection. Restored in 1996, the present Detroit Opera House at 1526 Broadway Street was originally known as the Capitol Theatre, built in 1922. It was among the first of several performance venues built around Detroit's Grand Circus Park, and was known as Detroit’s first true movie palace. When it opened, the theater was the fifth largest in the United States, seating up to 3,500 people. The Capitol Theater's name changed to the Paramount Theater in 1929, and changed again in 1934 to become the Broadway Capitol Theater.

Additionally, a lot of detail can be added by using some paint after firing the clay. So make sure to consider not only how to shape the clay, but also how to paint it afterwards. Once you finish the head section, you can either leave it as is or add a base. Making ceramic baskets is a fun way to combine basic weaving techniques with pottery.

If you’d like to know how to make terra sigillata, you can follow my step-by-step guide here. Applying terra sigillata (also called terra sig) is a way of creating a lovely smooth warm buttery finish on your pottery. The speed of the wheel is then set, and a chattering tool is positioned gently against the surface of the pot. As the clay rotates beneath the lightly positioned tool, the chattering tool bounces up and down on the surface of the ware. Chattering is a way of easily adding a repeating texture onto pots that have been made on the wheel. This will leave the underglaze or engobe in the carved lines and clean up the rest of the pot.

This allows air to flow around the whole of the tile and helps even out the drying process. The third thing to be mindful of when making wall tiles is to dry the tiles slowly and carefully. Like slab plates, tiles are notorious for warping when they dry.

You can then draw your design onto your pot lightly with a normal pencil. Any marks that are not removed when you carve will burn away in the kiln. This is an overview of how to use the sgraffito technique on leather hard clay. However, there is a cross-over between clay sculpting and pottery. So, I wanted to include sculpture in this list of slab pottery ideas. It’s a joy to place a handmade birdhouse in your backyard and see birds nesting in the home you made for them. With the mold, a coil bowl can be made almost exactly like the plate. Just place your clay shapes on the mold and blend the pieces together.

This can be an effective way to remove the unwanted color. And it also gets rid of any balls or burrs of clay left behind by the carving process. Once you are happy with the marbling, let the plate dry slowly before you fire it.

For oven-fired polymer clays, there are certain epoxy resins that will work. And for kiln-fired pottery clay, most Penguin Pottery glazes are lead-free and food-safe. A butter dish is another great beginner pottery idea because there are lots of little details you can add to challenge yourself. By combining some handbuilding techniques and slab pottery techniques, you can create way more interesting shapes.

Check out his video on how he makes mugs in mass – all by hand. A butter dish can play an aesthetic role and act as a utility in your kitchen. The size of a butter dish makes the project accessible to beginner skill sets. Because these are shallow bowls, I would recommend taking a piece of clay and forming the egg cups through the pinching method. Watching this video makes it easy to follow along and replicate the process. Making a mug with a lid is a fun and easy way to explore Potter’s wheel.

Then paint underglaze or engobe over the area carved lines. You don’t have to cover the whole of your piece, just paint the carved area. The techniques covered range from needing lots of equipment like a wheel and kiln to needing just your hands. Making plates on the pottery wheel is a simple and satisfying project for beginners. They are one of the easiest to make but the hardest to get off the wheel. An Apple Baker is a fun beginner pottery project to get you started on your pottery wheel journey.

With these 30 beginner pottery wheel projects that I chose, you’ll find ideas that suit your taste and skill level. Each project comes with an easy-to-follow instructional video, ensuring you’ll have the guidance you need to complete your piece. The beauty of underglaze is that it can be applied to clay at any stage. It can be painted onto leather hard clay, bone dry clay or bisque fired pottery. A pen and pencil holder is an easy pottery wheel project for beginners. It’s relatively simple and provides a practical and functional piece.

As you begin, the key is to ensure the cylinder for the pottery project is taller. While it may be slightly more difficult, it will certainly enhance your skills on the pottery wheel. To help you get started, the instructional video guides you through the process of making a spoon rest on a pottery wheel.

The second thing is that at least one side of the birdhouse needs to be removable. This is so that you can clean out the nest once the birds have left. Birds don’t like to nest a second time in an old nest (source). Or if you prefer, you can create a textured box like the one below. Alternatively, you can make a small slab construction, with holes cut into the side and top. The holes act as a way of letting the oxygen in so that the tealight stays alight.

Oakland Athletics set to play in Sacramento for three seasons starting in 2025

In March 1954, Dinah Washington made her first appearance at the Broadway-Capitol, but suffered the misfortune of having as an opening act a one-legged dancer named One Leg Bates who, according to Free Press critic Helen Bower, stole the show. Louis Armstrong, the Benny Goodman Band (without Benny Goodman, who was sick and unable to perform), Guy Lombardo and Lionel Hampton also made appearances at the theater around this time. Perhaps the most notable live concert at the Broadway-Capitol theater in this period took place in 1954, when Bill Haley & The Comets played Detroit’s first rock show. Crane got his start converting an existing Detroit building into The Casino for Kunsky in 1906. He also designed the Adams and the Madison, and later, the State (now the Fillmore Detroit), Fox and United Artists theaters. Crane also designed many famous non-theater buildings in Detroit during this period, including the Lafayette Building, Orchestra Hall, and Olympia Stadium, a former home of the Detroit Red Wings hockey team.

And a Sound That Would Make Music History.

Nothing of substance has happened in that case since then. The video spans over six minutes and is the most detailed they have ever been with regard to their draft house. 4 more LA County probation officers placed on leave over juvenile hall violence

After years of neglect, the Detroit Opera House was beautifully restored in 1996, when the nomadic Michigan Opera Theatre decided to transform the former Capitol Theater into a permanent home. With the oversight of Michigan Opera Theatre general director Dr. David DiChiera, the Detroit Opera House was marvelously restored. Today, the Detroit Opera House is home to Michigan Opera Theatre, and the Detroit home to many of the world’s best dance companies, Broadway shows and concerts. The goal was to restore the building to be as historically accurate to the original Capitol as possible. Repairing or replacing the terra cotta facade on the Broadway side of the building alone was a huge project.

It began its existence in the early 1920s as Detroit’s first true movie palace, the Capitol Theatre. It was one of many grand monuments built in a time when the city of Detroit was reaching the zenith of its importance and wealth, and like many of those monuments, its grandeur began to fade as the city’s wealth and prestige diminished. It is the site of many Detroit firsts, including the city’s first rock ‘n’ roll show, and its first international film festival. But dark times would see the theater close and become ravaged by time, vandals and the elements.

It is the white exterior of the stage house, carrying the building’s prominent Detroit Opera House insignia, that people now see as they drive around Grand Circus Park on Witherell street. After the final film reel was put away, the theater sat idle for a few years until it was reopened in 1981 for a new purpose, as a rock concert theater. The new owner, David Grossman, was 19 years old at the time. Nearly 30 years after Bill Haley and The Comets took the Broadway-Capitol stage to perform Detroit’s first rock show, the theater would now host some of the most popular rock acts of the 1980s, as well as other touring musicians, like Haley contemporaries Roy Orbison and Ray Charles.

In its first five years of business, the Capitol presented programs featuring first-run films supported by live performances by the theater’s house orchestra, the Capitol Wonder Orchestra, led by Eduard Werner. The Capitol Wonder Orchestra, a smaller orchestra than the Detroit Symphony, featuring 35 to 40 players, played a vital role in each program, playing classical numbers and backing well-known local singers and dance bands. Catlin goes on to describe the beginnings of the motion picture business in Detroit. In the first years of the 20th century, small vacant shops downtown were converted into pop-up theaters showing short picture reels. Detroit’s first proper movie theater, The Casino, opened in 1906, on Monroe Street.

The Capitol Theater was resplendently decorated in the Italian Renaissance style with lavish crystal chandeliers, frescoes, brass fixtures, marble stairways and drinking fountains. Rich rose-red Italian damask was used for the mainstage curtain and draperies throughout the house.

In the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s, the Broadway-Capitol became a great place to see local and touring jazz and rhythm and blues acts. The theater hosted Saturday-evening concerts in the early ’50s, broadcasted on WXYZ radio. Duke Ellington had a one-week stay in late November 1950.

For two years, pieces of the terra cotta were removed and shipped to a New York state company that specializes in terra cotta repair and replacement, and then shipped back, affixed to the facade, and the next section would be shipped out, until the job was complete. All of the capitals at the top of the columns had to be re-created. The chandeliers, which still remained because they were too large and unwieldy to be stolen by vandals, had to be stripped and repainted, and many crystals had to be replaced. In the ensuing years, thieves broke in and stole artifacts and stained glass, and neglect from years of use with little maintenance left the building exposed to Michigan’s rough climate changes. In more bustling American cities, the building would have been a prime candidate for demolition, but downtown Detroit’s depressed property values in the late 1980s made the building more expensive to tear down than to just leave standing. So there it sat, lifeless and uncared for, “demolition by neglect,” as Detroit theater historian Michael Hauser has put it.

Today, The Temptations are one of the greatest brands worldwide and their presence across multi-media platforms has never been more vivid. Williams’ life story was originally chronicled in his critically acclaimed autobiography, Temptations, and then sourced for the Emmy Award-winning television “The Temptations,” which he co-produced and is still on air or streaming every day somewhere in the world. Now, Williams’ personal story is the source for the Broadway theatrical release, Ain’t Too Proud and he serves as an executive producer. Named the #1 R&B Artists of All Time (Billboard), The Temptations throughout their evolution, have released countless chart hits, many American masterpieces.

Always on the lookout for those “I didn’t know that” moments, the podcast tells the city's history through its cultural, musical, automotive, social and political heritage. After several years of near decay, the theater underwent a minor restoration in 1960. The renamed and reconfigured 3,367-seat Grand Circus Theater became a movie house once again. The Grand Circus Theater closed its doors in 1978 and reopened under the same name in 1981.

Taurus: Hufflepuff

We all have our opinions on which one we particularly belong in and, unfortunately, we can only ever really guess because the Harry Potter world isn’t real. As a whole, Gryffindors were thought to get on best with Hufflepuffs, whereas Ravenclaws were thought to be quite friendly with Slytherins. There were certain exceptions, however, such as Harry's friendliness with Cho Chang and Luna Lovegood, both from Ravenclaw, as well as Cho's relationship with Cedric Diggory, a Hufflepuff.

Which Hogwarts House Do I Belong In?

The Malfoys are terrible, true, but they really do love each other. Narcissa Malfoy even decides to place her love for her son above her devotion to Voldemort in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by lying to the Dark Lord's face. She's never going to be Harry's friend, but she'll lie about his very-much-alive status in a critical moment if it means saving her son from death on the battlefield.

Which Hogwarts House Do You Belong In? Take This Quiz to Find Out

Slytherin House is all about ambition, and even though this Harry Potter house has produced dark wizards like Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters, being a Slytherin isn't synonymous with being evil. They're dedicated to achieving their goals, and show serious persistence on the way to their end goal — even though sometimes that includes manipulating the people around them to get there. Each house has its own characteristics, values, and color palettes, and all four houses compete for the Hogwarts House Cup at the end of the school year. Even though finding out someone's Harry Potter house has become as common as asking someone about their Myers Briggs personality type, it's actually easy to put yourself into the wrong house. If you want to figure out where you fit before the new Harry Potter series hits Max, pour yourself a glass of pumpkin juice and read up on the Harry Potter houses — and why the stereotypes about them are wrong.

If you're a Gryffindor, you're not afraid of embracing a challenge, or taking risks. This Harry Potter house is also known for its bravery, leadership, and chivalry, and its members make excellent friends because they're loyal til the end, or until they're given an important reason not to be. Gryffindors are strong believers in standing up for what's right, no matter the cost or inconvenience.

• The Gryffindor house colours are red and gold and are connected to fire. The Sorting Hat would only put you in this house if you demonstrated excellent wisdom, wit and a skill for learning. Ravenclaws are often known for being quite eccentric and most of the great wizarding inventors and innovators have come from this house. If you're a Hufflepuff, you probably have a deep sense of empathy and compassion for the people around you, and consistently look out for the underdog. Ravenclaws might be known for their intelligence, but being a part of this Harry Potter house is much more than just being smart. They're also witty and can think on their feet, even when challenges arise, but that also means they can be so wrapped up in their own minds they ignore the needs of others.

For Hufflepuff, the Sorting Hat seeks more than just the outward display of diligence or a friendly disposition. It probes the depths of a student's character, searching for the quiet resilience, unwavering loyalty, and an unassuming work ethic that defines Hufflepuff house. Loyalty is a key element, and the Sorting Hat looks for individuals whose bonds of friendship are unbreakable, who would stand by their peers through thick and thin. Cedric Diggory, a Hufflepuff luminary, exemplifies these qualities. Beyond his external charm, Cedric radiates a loyalty that transcends competition.

Aquarians don't necessarily have a problem with this, being more inclined to honor their own truth than compromise it for the sake of fitting in. Still, even Luna, largely content with being an oddball, loves her friends so dearly that she paints their portraits on her ceiling. The Sorting Hat could detect nascent qualities in a student and place them in the House that would challenge them and put their character to the test. When it comes to Harry Potter quizzes, if you’re a know-it-all, don’t sprout out the answer!

Furthermore, the common room of Gryffindor, located in Gryffindor Tower, becomes a sanctuary for these brave souls. The crackling fireplace and cozy armchairs create an atmosphere where tales of heroism are shared, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the Gryffindors. The bond formed within these crimson and gold walls is as unyielding as the courage that defines them. Matthew Lewis took the Pottermore quiz and he was sorted into Hufflepuff. He is best known for playing Neville Longbottom in the Potter movies.

You might think Leo belongs in Gryffindor, given that house's symbol is the noble lion. But in fact, those born between July 23 and August 22 are natural Slytherins. Sharp-eyed fans might note that this places Harry himself, born on July 31, in the house of the serpent.

Luna Lovegood, with her ethereal aura and unorthodox views, epitomizes Ravenclaw's essence. Her unique perspective on magical creatures and unyielding curiosity mirrors the house's commitment to intellectual exploration. Ravenclaws are not just bookish; they are visionaries who seek to unravel the mysteries that elude the less inquisitive minds. As you embark on this journey to discover your wizarding identity, know that this Harry Potter house test is a tribute to the magic that J.K. So, answer the questions honestly, and let the Sorting Hat reveal your true house, just as it would at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Immerse yourself in the enchanting universe of Harry Potter as you embark on a journey to uncover your Hogwarts house.

Instead of an either/or approach to their contact us page, Squarespace has determined that users venture to this page to find information in one of six categories.

simple website templates you should use for your next project

Another excellent example of mixing images and text while keeping the information simple is Facebook’s Contact Us page. Costco maximizes its use of buttons to direct customers to top inquiries, such as the Order page and Membership Auto-Renewal. The page to get help signing in also has a phone number a customer can call to chat through issues in real time, if needed. Nothing’s more frustrating for a user to have to hunt down ways to contact a company, leaving them overwhelmed by the time they finally find it.

contact page design

HubSpot's Contact Us page shows how to use a contact page to help customers. There are two big CTAs that connect you to ‘HubSpot Sales' and ‘Support'teams. HubSpot knows that people who visit this page might want to buy something or need help with a problem. By putting these buttons at the top of the page, HubSpot makes it easy for visitors to get the help they need. With a Contact Us page, you can enable visitors to fill out forms and ask necessary questions. However, some customers may prefer more traditional customer support methods.

Just like IMPACT, River Pools and Spas includes a video of what to expect and what they promise will happen when you fill out this form. While the addition of real headshots are great as well, we don’t know who we are talking to. Adding in that extra personal touch would go a long way in showing the user that you care.

If you’re running an online business that depends on converting sales, you may also want to include a call to action. A call to action encourages visitors to contact your company or organization. You may want to include a phrase like “Call Today” or “Get in Touch Immediately” to encourage visitors to speak to your team before they leave your website.

Customer Service Question of the Week

In addition to providing three points of contact for the customer, the company also includes maps of its physical office locations. On its Contact Us page, Moz presents an immediate and clear call to action (CTA) that guides users to the support team. The contact page also provides a detailed map outlining Moz’s office locations.

It’s where they go when they have a question and truly want to speak to an individual at your organization. The Contact page is one of the key pages that brings people closer to you. That’s why, in this article, we’re going to walk you through some of our top Contact page design picks and the practices that make them work for companies. By implementing congruent branding, you can ensure this page has the same character and aesthetic appeal as the rest of your website. It’s also common to have the same type of tab at the bottom of your homepage. Let’s explore some of the top portfolio Contact Us pages for those seeking inspiration for their own online presence.

The page actually lists out what people will get when they ask a question, including a promise for a short response time of 12 hours or fewer. The page also includes easy-to-read contact information, social media buttons, links to offers, and even a list of recently published blog posts. Contact forms are vital to the user experience, but your website’s overall design also requires thoughtful planning to promote seamless interactions. Webflow offers a suite of helpful templates to inspire and streamline your development process. You can also leverage tools like Quick Stack elements and reusable components to fine-tune designs for your unique brand. Social media creates segmented communities, so it’s easy to reach out to specific target audiences through these channels.

A good rule of thumb is to include Contact Us in the navigation bar and add a link in the footer. Behind the scenes, Divi AI goes through a series of thought processes and implementation steps to create your page, just like a real web designer. In the ever-evolving landscape of web design, effective communication with users remains a paramount concern. A well-crafted contact form can make all the difference, streamlining interactions and fostering meaningful connections. An extra text section and other contact details and addresses accompany these. With its split design, you can feature an eye-pleasing image on one side, a contact form on the other, and other information.

The contact details are to the left and social links are placed at the bottom of the page. The mood of this page is in line with the overall character of Fisher’s website – clean, elegant and striking. The page's primary content is a simple form, displayed over an extensive Porcelain-colored background. A submit CTA button adds color to the page's design, serving as the background color for the page's only CTA button. A bold contact form takes center stage on the page, prompting visitors to get involved and talk branding. I love how the FAQ section is visible on the page, helping visitors find answers to potential questions about the company and its services.

Prezi includes conversational messaging on its contact page and links to other helpful pages where visitors can reach out to the user community, contact sales, submit press inquiries, and more. A strong Contact Us page should contain several elements, such as a phone number and links to social media channels. It should also be easy to navigate, as this makes for a positive customer experience.

Slack uses topic buttons to navigate customers to FAQs and a search bar for custom questions. Lastly, the page includes a non-intrusive chatbot that gets a user in touch with the sales team quicker, if they wish. Impact’s Contact Us page is easy to navigate for users, directing them to support for any account-related issues or to visit the Help Center to get quick answers. And then simplify the page with easy button links that adjust the Contact form based on user engagement. Turn the people who know your business best into brand advocates with head-turning reward programs and impressive customer service. A color filter will help your text stand out without completely obscuring the background image. I’m also guessing you probably don’t have the party budget to hire a freelance graphic designer solely for your birthday. Which BMW Models Have Active Cruise Control?

bmw active cruise control

Additional adjustments or alterations to the vehicle’s system might be necessary. That’s all part of the usual Spring model upgrades BMW usually offers on its cars. Every Spring and Fall, the Bavarian brand offers a bump for its models, including new tech, new optional features and sometimes new paint hues or materials used for the cabin. For the BMW X3 and X4 models, which are rather new on the scene, few things have been left out of the bag when they were unveiled.

Beyond that, there are also several ways to improve the practicality of your 2 Series Active Tourer. You could add tables on the backs of the front seats, a dividing net for the boot or a ski bag. And, if you’re a music lover, you can choose from a couple of ways to upgrade the basic loudspeakers. As far as passengers are concerned, there’s no real difference between the hybrid 2 Series Active Tourer and the rest of the range.

EXPERIENCE

Dynamic Cruise Control is a relatively straightforward improvement over conventional cruise control. It is adept at maintaining a particular speed and deploying the brakes when necessary. The layout of these buttons on steering wheel depends on how your BMW is equipped.

Why you should retrofit your car for Apple AutoPlay or Android Auto devices

bmw active cruise control

BMW released details about its new Active Cruise Control system, its version of Bosch’s Adaptive Cruise Control technology. Whatever the name, the system uses radar sensors to detect objects ahead of a motorcycle and adjusts the cruising speed to maintain a safe distance. In other cars with a manual transmission, pressing the clutch pedal simply pauses the cruise control system a moment, allowing drivers to complete their gearshift. When they’ve released the clutch, the cruise control picks up where it left off — no additional button press required.

Article content

ACC is sometimes referred to as active cruise control, autonomous cruise control, radar cruise control, and intelligent cruise control. Whatever name it goes by, it’s a feature that’s showing up in more and more new cars. The BMW 3 Series additionally includes steering and lane control assistance, as well as a cross-traffic alert, in addition to the “stop and go” braking. The 3 Series is one of the safest vehicles on the road when active side collision avoidance and a lane-keeping aid are included.

The best adaptive cruise control is found in the BMW 3 Series.

Especially on a long drive when you may have a tendency to lose some of your focus on the minute details of your drive, keeping within the speed limit of the road you’re on could become a challenge. Cruise control will eliminate any worry that you may have about going over the speed limit so you can be sure to avoid flashing lights in your rear view mirror and an unnecessary fine. Using the turn indicator activates the system’s overtaking assistant function, preparing it to switch from the vehicle being passed to vehicles in the new lane. ACC is a crucial automotive feature, and you shouldn’t let the price prevent you from being safe.

Jerry can help you save money on auto insurance so you have more money for other car amenities. On the other hand, Active Cruise Control is an adaptive system in all but name. The ability to select and maintain a distance behind other vehicles is one of many enhancements made to a standard system by the Active Cruise Control supplied by BMW.

The sensor takes into account the motorcycle’s speed and yaw rate, predicting a path of travel through the next 100 meters to determine whether another vehicle is encroaching in the set distance. A distance controller sends a target acceleration (either positive for acceleration or negative for deceleration) via a CAN bus connection to the ABS and cruise control system. The ABS calculates the amount of drive torque from the engine and braking torque (if required) to adjust the speed. With its active system, riders will be able to set both a cruising speed and a distance ahead of the motorcycle. As long as the area within that range ahead of the motorcycle is clear, the cruise control system will maintain the set speed. In a risky circumstance, it can bring the 5 Series to a complete stop if necessary.

Which BMW Models Offer Adaptive Cruise Control?

There is also a ‘cancel’ button, which will disengage the feature without applying the brake. A ‘resume’ button will bring you back to the speed that you last engaged. The BMW 3 Series’ ACC, as we previously mentioned, can keep an eye out for traffic signs and decipher what the suggested speed limit is. If the cruise control in your vehicle suddenly kicks off, a few things may be to blame.

A second level warning comes on when the system detects a more dangerous scenario, where the system expects it cannot maintain a safe distance and emergency braking is required. For safety reasons, Active Cruise Control cannot perform emergency braking by itself; riders still have to be ready for emergency measures. As with regular cruise control systems, riders can override the speed by twisting the throttle. Cruise control can be turned off by braking or turning the throttle grip forward past its resting position. BMW’s system has two modes, comfortable and dynamic, affecting how aggressively the system accelerates or decelerates.

Unexpectedly or not, the facelifted BMW X3 and X4 cars, which were launched late last year, did not come standard with the most recent Active Cruise Control capabilities. This will alter in April when the SUV and Sports Activity Coupe will both be equipped with the most recent Stop & Go technology. One of the most helpful features you can receive in a BMW is the Active Cruise Control functionality, especially for prolonged highway drives. This is due to the fact that it offers several unique features in addition to Adaptive Cruise Control.

BMW’s sample images show the system equipped to a K1600GT but we expect it will be available on a wide range of models. There may be some regulatory hurdles to deal with, so it’s unclear if BMW will offer the technology in all markets. The good news is that most BMWs already feature adaptive cruise control, so you won’t need to worry about purchasing it separately. Lexus – Lexus ACC doesn’t bring the vehicle to a complete stop, requiring driver intervention at very low speeds.

Is Royal Caribbean still going to Labadee, Haiti?

labadee cruise port

Like the rest of the western Caribbean, Haiti has a dry season from December until March. Dragon Tail Beach on the north shore of the peninsula is the largest one. The village of Labadie, after which the resort is named, is not normally accessible from the resort and is not for the casual tourist, as it is a fairly nondescript, impoverished community. There is no obligation or requirement for the cruise line to replace the scheduled port visit with another port. With Royal Caribbean ships getting re-routed away from Haiti, alternative ports of call are the first choice in trying to update an itinerary. Usually these updates come in an email to passengers and travel agents in the weeks leading up to a cruise.

Don't forget your water shoes

Honestly, I didn’t love the food at Labadee and would consider going back on board for lunch. But it’s hard to beat free food only steps away from your beach chair, so the buffet is great for convenience. Finally, Adrenaline beach is directly below the Labadee zipline, so it’s fun to watch people zip by. The far end of the beach is also close to a buffet for lunch and the artisan market if you want to do some shopping. Here, you will find a floating bar (pictured above), a couple beach bars, a covered bar, and tons of lounge chairs. Adrenaline beach is the largest beach, and runs the full length of one side of the peninsula.

Here are the best Islamorada restaurants on the water with great views & food. Drinking water is available at all bar locations and cafés, where lunch is served. On the southern shore of Labadee, Nellie's Beach is small, secluded, and with excellent cabanas.

In 2019, 160 cruise ships spent a day at Labadee with 720,000 passengers (and crew) enjoying the resort facilities. It has four beautiful white sandy beaches and the warm Caribbean waters are perfect for swimming and a host of watersports. Labadee also has some adrenalin rides including an alpine roller coaster and one of the longest zip-lines over water anywhere in the world.

Dining & Shopping

You don’t want to go to the Caribbean without spending an ample amount of time at the beach. At Columbus Cove Beach, you can get your time in the sun without the crowds. This beach is located on the farthest side of the island, as most people don’t want to take the longer walking trip to get there. However, with a complimentary ferry ride to the area, you can get there in less time and hit the water sooner.

It is called “Adrenaline” beach due to the waves and rocky bottom (only at one end of the beach), so some parts of the beach are not allowed to swim. If you can’t or don’t want to walk, you can take a free tram at the Dragon Tram Station that will take you to Columbus Cove Tram Station at the end of the resort. There are two stops in between, one at Nellie’s Beach (Barefoot Tram Station) and Town Square Tram Station (where the flea market is).

Before it became well known as a beach destination for cruisers, Labadee was stylized as “Labadie”. Royal Caribbean purchased the island with the intent to make it a private, exclusive beach escape for a romantic getaway or fun for the entire family. On a cruise to Haiti, Labadee is a great destination for lounging and water adventures. The final reason is to celebrate a special occasion with a more bougie experience.

Labadee is a privately operated island, and you’ll be tendered ashore from your cruise ship onto the islands for a day of beachy delights, barbeque, and family fun. Beach chairs are complimentary for visitors, and it’s easily navigable thanks to shuttle services and walkable beaches. Glide 400 feet above Labadee tied to a colorful parachute while visiting the island. You’ll get stunning aerial views of the Labadee port and of the cruise ships parked in the calm bay.

Based on all the other blog posts I read, we initially started the day at Columbus Cove. However, we quickly moved to Adrenaline beach, which I much preferred. This is the most protected beach area, which is good for young kids. You will also be able to shop at the Artisan Market and pick up some pieces of jewelry, clothing, or household handmade items to take home with you. Have you ever slid down a huge waterslide while looking out onto the Caribbean Ocean? If not, then this attraction is one that you need to add to your Labadee itinerary.

You will need cash (US dollars) when shopping at the Artisan’s Market and the Artisan Village. It’s also useful for tipping local beach staff and watersports assistants who greatly appreciate the extra income. The zipline starts 450 feet up the hillside and the speedy ride lasts for two exhilarating minutes at speeds of around 35mph.

And, if you ever need anything while you’re riding, there will be trained instructors and guides around for whatever you need. This tour is not for the weak at heart, and it is also not designed for children. There is also a rolling log that you can try your skills at and a floating trampoline that allows you to jump on the water. There is also a water slide for those who want a smaller version of the Dragon’s Tail Coaster without the high speeds. This area is great for young children and older kids alike and both can get a chance to use the park for an hour for $15 a ticket.

However, whether you are choosing to slide down, or you just want to watch other members of your group go, you will likely get wet if you’re anywhere near the splash zone. Nestled in an area of Adrenaline beach lies a kid’s paradise that will blow your children away. This place is equipped with fountains, geysers, and water guns, and gives kids a place to splash away without worrying about getting an adult around them wet. By far, one of the most popular things to do on Labadee is to take a ride on the Dragon’s Breath Zipline. This attraction will take you soaring through the air across the island and lets you see some incredible views while riding down the line. The waterslide is available at Columbus Cove and is mainly designed for kids (it’s not really for adults).

Spend the rest of the time on the shore laying on the warm, white sand, or dip your toes in the clear waters and do for a dip. If you would like to travel further out, there’s a tram that is available to take you to different areas. Each area is marked, much like a bus stop, which makes it easy for cruisers to see the stops and be able to get to and from their tour or excursion easily. Or, if you are heading to the farthest beach, then taking the ferry will get you there the fastest.

Labadee is the Royal Caribbean’s private resort destination located on the northern coast of Haiti, within the arrondissement of Cap-Haïtien. The resort lies on a Haitian peninsula that is leased to Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., for the exclusive use of passengers of Royal Caribbean International. Visitors to Nellie’s Beach can enjoy a range of activities, including water sports like kayaking and paddleboarding, as well as lounging on the pristine white sand.

Labadee is the name of a beach area reserved exclusively for the use of Royal Caribbean ships and its passengers on a peninsula in northern Haiti. It's walled off from the rest of the country and Royal Caribbean employs a private security force there. Even though it’s a small island, you’ll find big thrills in Labadee, where the Dragon’s Tail Roller Coaster is a favorite for adrenaline seekers.
